It is customary, polite, and ethical for the jury board to discuss winning films. We do not discuss movies that have not won anything. The jury board is unrelated to someone showing a rejected movie for debate in a public setting. I would consider it unethical if one of us decided to speak out about a movie that was not even recognized on some platform. The festival’s atmosphere was completely shattered by just one incident at the closing ceremony .

CONTOROVERSY
For showing his movie “In The Name of Love — Melancholy of God’s Own Country” at JNU, he was physically assaulted
The Global Indian Foundation and the Vivekanand Vichar Manch hosted a screening of Sudipto’s film In The Name of Love – Melancholy of God’s Own Country on April 28, 2018, at the Sabarmati Dhaba of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.
As soon as the screening began, members of the Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment and the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) interrupted it, claiming that the movie was based on the idea of love jihad (illegal religious conversion of women to Islam), which could foster animosity between various religious groups.
The protesters who were against the movie hurt a number of students, harassed a number of female students, and even drove a security guard over with a car. Sudipto alleged that during the riot, he was punched, shoved, and physically abused by protesters who also tried to damage his laptop and hard drive. In an interview, Sudipto voiced his anger at the JNU students’ aggressive treatment of him, saying,
The movie is neither anti-Muslim nor, for that matter, anti-community. It primarily concerns the pattern we noticed in Kerala and the larger ISIS goal, foreseen by V.S. Achitanandan, to turn Kerala into an Islamic state.
The degree of intolerance, the nature of the abuse, and the disposition with which they approached a work of art. If you are stifling the truth or preventing art from being exhibited, then what I did is my art, and the situation in JNU is essentially anti-democratic.
We are not irrational, and we used no emotive words. Each statement made in the movie is supported by a supporting document. We have the docs, which are annoying documents. So far, we have only discussed the documents we have gathered. It is very frightening.
A complaint has been filed accusing “The Kerala Story” of defaming the state.
Sudipto released the teaser for the movie The Kerala Story in November 2022. According to the teaser, about 32,000 females were converted to Islam, transported to Islamic State-controlled regions in Syria and Afghanistan, and ultimately coerced into joining the terrorist organization “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” (ISIS).
The clip was heavily criticized online as soon as it was made public for purportedly depicting the state as “the core of Islamic terrorism.” A journalist from Tamil Nadu named BR Arvindakshan submitted a complaint asking for the film to be banned till the director verifies the information in it. He claimed that the movie was made with the intention of destroying the state’s peace, unity, and integrity, which might cause racial tensions.
A case was filed under the Indian penal code’s sections 153 A and B, which prohibit “[promoting disharmony and enmity] between different groups on the basis of religion.” In his complaint, Arvindakshan wrote:
Making Kerala out to be a state that supports terrorism through the movie is a really bad idea.Given that this film has been portrayed negatively in Kerala, it is not only against the unity of India but also against the sovereignty, but also trying to tell that this is a very shameful thing for the intelligence agencies of the country.. 32,000 women were forced to join ISIS after being converted, according to the teaser.
If so, then every day for the previous ten years, nine women from Kerala have converted to Islam and joined ISIS. This indicates that 3,000 women join ISIS annually. Without the ability to verify the information, this does not seem acceptable.
Speaking to the media, Sudipto provided the following justification:
32,000 females went missing, as I stated. Locals in places like Kasargod or Mallapuram in northern Kerala will tell you that the figure may be as high as 50,000. What the movie is about is the why and how of what happened. I can not yet give away the entire plot of the movie. Additionally, I have spoken with the NIA directly. Give me some time, and I will provide all the information.
