Archaeologists in Italy have discovered an ancient-Roman ceremonial cart from a villa outside the ancient city of Pompei buried under the ground. This vehicle was used during any special festival or ceremony. The city of Pompei in Italy was buried under lava due to a volcanic eruption in 79 AD. Italy’s Ministry of Culture has termed this vehicle as a unique discovery.
This four wheeled cart made of iron, bronze and tin is almost perfectly preserved. The cart was discovered near the stables of an ancient villa in Civita Giuliana, 700 meters north of the walls of ancient Pompei. Massimo Osna, director of the archaeological site, said the vehicle was the first of its kind discovered in the area.

Ceremonial vehicle found for the first time
He told that in the search so far, we have found only vehicles carrying vehicles and goods. This is the first time that we have got a vehicle to attend a special event. It is an extraordinary find that advances our understanding of the ancient world. He told that this vehicle was used during the festive moments of the community like parades and processions.
The whole city was destroyed in a volcanic eruption
In ancient times, about 13,000 people lived in Pompei, located 23 kilometers southeast of Naples. In 79 AD, a volcanic eruption equivalent to an atomic bomb covered the entire city of Pura with hot lava and ash. The team of archaeologists has so far reached only about two-thirds of the 165-acre ancient city.
Now Pompeii became a tourist destination
From the year 1750 onwards, parties were officially formed to search for the ruins of this city. Since then, the research work is going on in this area till date. Pompeii is one of Italy’s most popular attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every year a large number of tourists reach Italy to see this ancient city.
